In order for Jack & Jill to function, our co-op depends upon the contributions and involvement of all of our member families. Parent responsibilities begin before the first day of class. At the beginning of the school year, you will be required to attend Orientation and a Parent Training meeting. If you cannot attend the initial Parent Training meeting, you will need to observe class before your first day as a working parent. Grandparents, nannies, etc. are also welcome to train as working parents.
During the course of the year, you will be required to participate as a working parent in the classroom, generally 2-3 times per month. If you cannot work a day as scheduled, it is your responsibility to find a substitute. Usually, this is done by trading days with another parent from within your group. Parents who are not working in the classroom are responsible for helping with daily clean-up before the end of class.
In addition to your classroom responsibility, parents also hold a board or committee position, participate in fundraising activities, fulfill required parent education credits, and assist with their class’s quarterly deep cleaning of the school. Committee positions are chosen at orientation and are small but important jobs that help to keep our school running smoothly. Examples of committee positions are class historian, gardener, library helper and play dough maker.
